Des étudiants de Master en Ornithologie participent à un atelier de baguage
Les étudiants du programme de Master en Ornithologie de l’Université Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis ont participé en janvier à un atelier de baguage. L’atelier s’est déroulé sur quatre jours dans le Parc National de la Langue de Barbarie et a été animé par le bagueur Guillem Chacon. L’ensemble de ce processus a été rendu possible grâce à la collaboration entre l’Université Gaston Berger, le Parc National de la Langue de Barbarie et l’Observatoire des Oiseaux du Delta du Sénégal, qui opère à Djoudj et à Langue. Des étudiants de neuf pays africains ont pu apprendre de nombreux détails sur la migration des oiseaux et l’étude des oiseaux par le baguage.
Students from the Master's in Ornithology conduct a bird ringing workshop
Students in the Master’s program in Ornithology at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis participated in a bird ringing workshop in January. The workshop took place over four days in the Langue de Barbarie National Park and was led by bird ringer Guillem Chacon. The entire process was made possible through a collaboration between Gaston Berger University, the Langue de Barbarie National Park, and the Senegal Delta Bird Observatory, which operates in Djoudj and the Langue. Students from nine African countries learned many details about bird migration and the study of birds through bird ringing.
La première activité formelle comprenait un atelier de baguage pour les gardes forestiers. Atelier qui sera répété dans les parcs nationaux du Sénégal.
The first formal activity included a ringing workshop for park rangers. This workshop will be repeated throughout Senegal’s national parks.
Réouverture de la Station de Baguage du Delta du Sénégal
Après plus d’une décennie d’inactivité, la station de baguage du Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj était à nouveau opérationnelle en 2024. Sûrement le lieu le plus important d’Afrique pour la migration et l’escale des oiseaux européens. La station a commencé à baguer les passereaux et les limicoles dans les parcs nationaux du Djoudj et de la Langue de Barbarie. Cela a été rendu possible grâce à un accord avec la Direction des Parcs Nationaux du Sénégal et aux efforts combinés des bagueurs européens et africains. La station physique est située à la Station Biologique du Parc National des Oiseaux et son objectif principal est les migrateurs et les hivernants.
Reopening of the Senegal Delta Bird Ringing Station
After more than a decade of inactivity, the ringing station at Djoudj National Bird Park was operational again in 2024. It is arguably Africa’s most prominent site for European bird migration and stopovers. The station began ringing passerines and waders in the Djoudj and Langue de Barbarie National Parks. This was made possible thanks to an agreement with the Senegalese National Parks Directorate and the combined efforts of European and African ringers. The station is located at the Biological Station of Oiseaux National Park and its main focus is on migrants and wintering birds.
Premier camp de Baguage d’Oiseaux en Côte d’Ivoire
En mai 2024, le premier camp scientifique de baguage d’oiseaux a eu lieu en Côte d’Ivoire. Sous la coordination de Guillem Chacon, des baguers européens sont allés aider la Société Ivoirienne d’Ornithologie nouvellement créée dans sa première activité. La première station ornithologique du pays a été créée dans la réserve écologique de Lamto.

First Bird Ringing Camp on the Ivory Coast
In May 2024 the first scientific bird ringing camp was held on the Ivori Coast. Under the coordination of Guillem Chacon, European ringers went to help the newly created Ivorian Society of Ornithology in its first activity. The first ornithological station in the country was created in the Lamto ecological reserve.
