Calibration between bird ringers

To perfect their technique and compare methods and equipment, the ringers meet regularly. This is a developmental experience, calibrating the morphological and biometric results.

To our knowledge, the first international calibration among bird ringers, involving bird ringers operating in Africa, took place in November 2019 in the Peruvian Amazon. Experts from Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America participated. Organized by Ornithoschool as part of the Amazon Birding Fest, 1,000 meters of mist nets were installed and the usual range of morphometry and biometric measurements were carried out, while also testing new techniques at the time, such as the use of thermal imaging cameras.

We invite you to participate in the calibration we’ll be conducting next 2026 February in Liberia. The goal is to compare our methods and techniques. The participation of bird ringers from different centers and schools is very interesting.

Pour perfectionner leur technique et comparer méthodes et équipements, les bagueurs se réunissent régulièrement. Il s’agit d’une expérience de développement qui permet d’étalonner les résultats morphologiques et biométriques.

À notre connaissance, le premier étalonnage international parmi les bagueurs d’oiseaux, impliquant des bagueurs opérant en Afrique, a eu lieu en novembre 2019 en Amazonie péruvienne. Des experts d’Europe, d’Afrique, d’Amérique du Nord et d’Amérique latine y ont participé. Organisé par Ornithoschool dans le cadre de l’Amazon Birding Fest, 1 000 mètres de filets ont été installés et les mesures morphométriques et biométriques habituelles ont été prises, en plus de tester de nouvelles techniques pour l’époque, comme l’utilisation de caméras thermiques.

Nous vous invitons à participer à l’étalonnage que nous réaliserons en février 2026 prochain au Libéria. L’objectif est de comparer nos méthodes et techniques entre nous. La participation des bagueurs de différents centres et écoles est très intéressante.
